We think all Two Hills jewellery is special and we hope you do too. As such it should be worn and treated with care to keep it looking its best. We recommend removing your jewellery when sleeping, swimming, exercising, gardening and doing household chores. Refrain from knocking or scraping jewellery against hard surfaces as this can scratch and chip metal and gemstones.
When not worn we suggest storing your jewellery in an airtight bag (with the exception of pearls) or the jewellery packaging provided.
Silver jewellery is best when worn regularly and can begin to tarnish if left exposed to open air for longer periods. It can also tarnish when exposed to certain liquids and fumes including chlorine, sulphur, salt water, perfumes, body lotions and even the natural PH of someone’s skin. There are many high quality silver jewellery cleaners available on the market, however you can also clean your silver using natural products found at home. We suggest using a mixture of boiling water and baking soda placed into a bowl lined with aluminium foil. A gentle rub with a jewellery polishing cloth will also clean your piece easily.
Moisture of any kind is the natural enemy of brass so to keep your brass beautiful we recommend keeping it away from any source of moisture including hand creams, hair products, the bathroom shelf and so on. Brass pieces can be cleaned with a non-abrasive cleaning product like brasso which can be found at your local supermarket. Another trick that works wonders is to place your piece in a small dish and cover with ketchup...yep ketchup! Sounds weird...works wonders. You can also use a mixture of warm water, vinegar and salt. Always be sure to rinse and thoroughly dry your piece after cleaning.
Gold is quite a soft material so we recommend wearing your gold piece with care to avoid scratches and dents on the surface of your jewellery. Gold can be easily cleaned using a jewellery polishing cloth or warm soapy water and a soft bristled brush. Make sure to carefully rinse and dry your piece before storing or wearing.
Plated pieces require extra care when worn and being cleaned. Plating is a process where a very thin layer of metal (such as gold) is applied to another metal (such as silver or brass). This thin layer is susceptible to chipping and fading over time so we recommend getting your piece replated every couple of years to keep it looking its best. We offer a re-plating service for your Two Hills piece for a small fee, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for further information regarding our re-plating service. We recommend your plated piece be gently cleaned with a soft cotton cloth or plain warm water and dried immediately with a soft cotton cloth before storing or wearing.
Gemstones and Pearls
Gemstones and pearls are delicate and should be cleaned with care. Gemstones are prone to chipping if knocked against hard or abrasive surfaces so it is best to clean your stone pieces with warm soapy water and a soft bristle brush. Pearls must be kept away from water and any kind of cleaning product as these can degrade the pearl prematurely and lead to dulling of the pearl's lustre. We recommend giving your pearl piece a gentle rub with a lint free cloth.
